Man Gets Death Penalty for Picking Flowers in the Forest

A man was sentenced to death for picking a flower while taking a walk in the woods. He claimed to have “loved the aroma” and wanted to “share it” with his friends and family.

This story parallels that of the man sentenced to 10 years in a California prison for nearly the exact same story. In this case the Californian admitted to freely distributing the beautiful flower to “everyone he knew”.

These judgements must infer that the lawmakers state something similar to the following: “When will it become clear that people cannot simply wander the world enjoying anything they see? How hard is it to comprehend that some of the universe’s organic materials are simply, for lack of a better word, illegal?! What would drive someone to think that every plant is a beautiful and harmonious part of life?”

These are essentially true stories. In most countries it is “illegal” to pick certain flowers and plants, for any reason, and people are incarcerated or dead because of these laws. Does that make sense?

Have we given these laws a strong second look? Or have we simply regurgitated words and ideas that were placed on us? Can a plant actually be “bad”? There’s not even reason to go into why certain illegal plants are useful- it’s beyond the point. The fact that a plant could be deemed “illegal” is where inquiry should begin. How does it make sense that someone else can tell you how you should interact with an organic material of Earth?

What is this doing on a Yoga Retreat website? Yoga’s primary function is to cultivate awareness within the practitioner- to bring light to what has not yet been seen. Yoga causes the mind to perceive MORE in each moment, MORE in each thought and idea. More awareness often reveals the ridiculousness of our conditioned social ways and allows us to see more clearly and apply “Natural Laws” to life instead.

As a guide and teacher this is my primary focus  – to help cultivate a greater awareness of life, love and Self and to inspire liberation of the human mind!
